ADE A. SAWYER
I am a communications and public affairs strategist with international experience and a deep interest in renewable energy, sustainability and social justice. I'm inspired by visionaries who work to maximize human potential and build equitable, sustainable economies.
I am an Account Director at Weber Shandwick - one of the world's leading strategic communications firms - focusing on global energy and sustainability in our Public Affairs practice. I lead projects and manage teams that counsel corporate, government and nonprofit clients, while devising and implementing strategies tailored to their goals.
After seven years in D.C. I am now based in the Middle East, completing a 14-month project on behalf of Weber Shandwick for a leading manufacturer, building capacity within its global communications team.
RON BROWN SCHOLARSHIP
2012 - 2018
The Ron Brown Scholarship is awarded annually to African American high school seniors of outstanding promise. I served in leadership roles for the Ron Brown Scholars Alumni Association from 2012 to 2018, helping to maintain strong connections among our community of 400+ scholars and alumni, while guiding our organizational strategy. I remain an active member of the group.
2012 - Present
Higher Achievement provides a a rigorous, year-round academic enrichment program to put about 1,000 middle school students on the path to college in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Richmond and Pittsburgh. I served for six years as a volunteer in D.C., working with 5-8th grade students to improve their reading and analytical skills. I currently serve on the organization's national board.
THINGS I LOVE
Because I'm a Real Person!
Before moving to Saudi Arabia, I had never been outside the U.S. for more than a few days at a time. But in my time abroad I've traveled to 14 new countries, mostly in the developing world. It's safe to say I've caught the travel bug.
I occasionally did professional photography as a student, and it's still a hobby I'm passionate about. (A couple of the photos on this page are mine!)
Growing up in Atlanta, I occasionally got a taste of the great outdoors, but in the past few years it's become a passion. Living in D.C., I often hiked in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and I hope to do more around the world.
My father has been an avid biker since his teen years, and he passed that interest on to me. Any day when I can spend a few hours on a bike is a good day.
